Montevideo, August 4th, 2017. The Pacific Alliance High Level Group (GAN) and the MERCOSUR Common Market Group (GMC) held a meeting at the headquarters of the Latin American Integration Association (ALADI) in Montevideo, Uruguay, on August 4th, 2017, to advance the roadmap agreed by the ministers of foreign affairs and ministers responsible for foreign trade of both blocs, on April 7th in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
The meeting was chaired by Colombia, as Pro Tempore Presidency of the Pacific Alliance, and Brazil, as Pro Tempore Presidency of MERCOSUR, agreed to hold meetings between experts in the area of accumulation of origin and production chains, with the objective of exchanging information and experiences of each block. Likewise, in trade facilitation, representatives of the two mechanisms agreed to carry out approaches to implement actions aimed at facilitating, accelerating and expediting customs procedures.
In order to favor business meetings and to develop trade promotion events, the Pacific Alliance and MERCOSUR will exchange information on the events and promotion spaces provided by each bloc that will be carried out, with the objective of defining those in which there is mutual interest in participating.
Mechanisms will also be explored for the exchange of information on barriers to trade and, on the other hand, on services, some specific areas of work will be identified among experts from each regional bloc.
Both mechanisms will continue the progress of the roadmap in order to comply with those agreed in this session and with that, to achieve greater integration in Latin America.
