Since 2016, the Pacific Alliance and ASEAN have maintained a formal level of relationship. These two regional blocs have the main objective of promoting economic, political and cultural integration among their members, as well as promoting cooperation in various fields.

One of the objectives of the two regional blocs is to foster social progress and cultural exchange, which is why, starting in 2024, they proposed to carry out an exchange of knowledge, experiences, and best practices to promote sustainable tourism and innovation in the Pacific Alliance and ASEAN countries.
